The Get Ready Program is an intensive six month program that targets teenage boys and girls who have dropped out of school. These teenagers are at risk for and highly vulnerable to exploitation.
We continue to do our best to educate parents regarding good health and hygiene practices to help ensure their babies are healthy and happy.
In April, we were busy supporting families in Cambodia from our regular visits and programs to recruitment and execution of new activities! We visited 42 families, provided counselling to 14 families and supplies and financial support to families in need.
In March, our happy team of sewing ladies made 111 school uniforms for our state school students. They also made curtains for the offices with material purchased from the local market.
March was a busy but fulfilling month for the coordinators of Riverkids’ Direct Cash Aid. Under the programme, we give a direct cash donation to families who meet specific criteria that we set, so that these families are empowered to make their own spending decisions.
At the end of the month, nine babies were enrolled in the Baby Bellies program following the registration of another toddler. Of these, six were males and three were females. A newly-enrolled baby born into a poor family in December was registered in the program due to malnutrition.
What are the reasons students drop out of schools? Coming from a poor background and could not afford the school fees; families who neglect; or lack of motivation and support from families?
It has been a busy and productive time for the Health Departments of Riverkids. Overall there were ten babies in the Baby Bellies Program who received cereal, formula and general health advice. 75 patients received medical check ups and medicines from the nurse, whilst 12 patients needed medical attention from the doctor. Four pregnant clients were seen, two of which received pre-natal examinations.
December was an eventful month for us with highs and lows. Some of the highs were really delightful, such as a pizza lunch enjoyed by 11 of our English students, courtesy of Avondale and five of our staff members.
